RADICAL TRANSPARENCY

KNOW YOUR LOT

Every number — and every note — behind this coffee, published. Tap a metric to see what it means and why it matters.

Origins

Where this coffee comes from

Costa Rica is renowned for its innovative honey processing and meticulous approach to quality, while Ethiopia—the birthplace of coffee—is celebrated for its extraordinary flavour diversity and rich coffee heritage. Together, they showcase two distinct yet equally expressive coffee origins.

Region

Where within the origin it was grown

Tarrazu, Costa Rica, is renowned for its high-quality specialty coffee and distinctive growing conditions, while Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, is celebrated for its exceptionally expressive coffee character. Together, these two renowned regions bring distinct regional identities to the coffee in your cup.

Producer

Who grew or produced this coffee

This blend is crafted in-house by The Brew Crew, bringing together carefully selected coffees to create a profile that is intentional, balanced, and distinctly our own.

Variety

The coffee variety grown / What this blend is made from

Venecia contributes its own distinct varietal character, while Ethiopian Heirloom represents a diverse collection of locally evolved coffee varieties. Together, they create a cup shaped by two very different genetic backgrounds.

Altitude

How high this coffee was grown

The coffees in this blend are grown across elevations of 1,600–2,100 metres above sea level, reflecting the different growing environments of the two components6

Process

How the coffee was processed after harvest

Ripe cherries are handpicked and divided between two processes. For the black honey process, the cherries are pulped while retaining most of their sweet mucilage before being slowly dried; for the natural process, the cherries are dried whole on raised African beds under the sun for three weeks. Together, the two processes develop concentrated sweetness, rich fruit character and a full, rounded body.

Roast Level

How far we developed the roast

A light-medium roast balances the coffee’s natural character with added sweetness and body from roasting. It preserves much of the coffee’s origin-driven complexity while creating a more rounded and approachable cup.

Preferred Extraction

How we think this coffee shines best

This coffee is best enjoyed as a filter brew, allowing its flavours, aroma, and complexity to unfold with greater clarity in the cup. Methods such as V60, Chemex, or other pour-over brewers are ideal for highlighting its character.

CREATED BETWEEN FAMILIAR & WILD
Behind the Coffee

CREATED BETWEEN FAMILIAR & WILD

Blends don't mean cost-cutting... In specialty coffee, it means synergy. Velvet Bloom has the best of Costa Rica & Ethiopia. Honestly, even as standalone coffee both coffees shine well.
Costa Rica is well-known for honey processed coffees that deliver dried fruits taste notes and syrup like bodies. Ethiopian naturals, on the other hand, are much milder in body but louder in florality and berry-like sweentess.

The Costa Rica we have used went through a black honey process and light roast profile, a combinaion of washed and natural process where the sticky mucilage is left in tact for 15 days, which amplifies sweetness & body. Our Ethiopian natural follows a medium roast profile bringing out floral and fruity notes.

On the cupping table, we were drawn to both coffee individually. We could taste the care that had gone into the picking and processing at both origins, and the idea of blending them just clicked. The result was a vibrant, sweeter and even juicier cup, that was replicated each time we brewed the coffee.

We were absolutley satsified with the result and consistency and chose to make this part of our core collection. It something we would mind having every day, every month, or every year.
