RADICAL TRANSPARENCY

KNOW YOUR LOT

Every number — and every note — behind this coffee, published. Tap a metric to see what it means and why it matters.

Origins

Where this coffee comes from

Malawi is an emerging East African coffee origin with a smaller, more distinctive presence in the global specialty coffee landscape. Its growing coffee culture reflects the country’s unique agricultural heritage and environment.

Region

Where within the origin it was grown

Located in northern Malawi, Rumphi is an important coffee-growing region known for its mountainous terrain and favorable growing conditions. The region forms part of Malawi’s smaller but distinctive specialty coffee landscape.

Producer

Who grew or produced this coffee

We work directly with smallholder farmers at origin, collaborating closely on processing and quality to bring out the best in their coffee. This hands-on partnership gives us greater involvement from farm to cup while supporting the people behind each harvest.

Variety

The coffee variety grown / What this blend is made from

Catimor is a coffee variety developed by crossing Timor Hybrid with Caturra, valued for its resilience and ability to produce good-quality coffee across a range of growing conditions.

Altitude

How high this coffee was grown

Grown at 1,500 metres above sea level, the cooler conditions at this elevation slow coffee cherry development, allowing more time for complexity and character to develop in the cup.

Process

How the coffee was processed after harvest

In natural processing, coffee cherries are dried whole with the fruit still surrounding the seed. This extended contact with the fruit often produces sweeter, fruit-forward flavours and a fuller, more expressive cup.

Roast Level

How far we developed the roast

A medium roast aims to balance the coffee’s natural character with sweetness and body developed during roasting. It creates a rounded, approachable cup while still allowing the coffee’s inherent qualities to come through.

Preferred Extraction

How we think this coffee shines best

This coffee is roasted to perform well across both espresso and filter brewing, offering enough structure and intensity for espresso while retaining the clarity and character needed for filter.

A SMALL ORIGIN WITH A BIG HEART
Behind the Coffee

A SMALL ORIGIN WITH A BIG HEART

Malawi may be one of Africa’s smaller coffee-producing countries, but its potential deserves far greater recognition. Malawi Community Lot was created to share that potential while building a meaningful partnership with smallholder farmers in Phoka, Rumphi.

Working directly at origin, Brew Crew supported the farmers with natural-processing knowledge, access to suitable equipment and closer quality development. Rather than simply selecting a finished coffee, we helped develop the lot alongside the community behind it.

The result combines a rich dark-chocolate foundation with juicy pear and grape notes, creating a cup with enough depth for espresso and enough fruit character for filter. It represents what this partnership is about: improving quality, supporting farmers and introducing more people to an origin that deserves to be discovered.
